“Travels From Outside Of The Line To The Inside”

Nurdan Iskender’s solo exhibition “Travels From Outside Of The Line To The Inside” composed of her drawings since 2008 and recent works will be exhibited at Galeri/Miz starting from October 15th

Galeri/Miz rolls out the season with another young artist: Nurdan Iskender is meeting with the spectators at Teşvikiye Galeri/Miz from 15th October to 5th Novermber

Mostly known with her collage works, the artist has created a series of compositions with the drawings she has been producing since her solo exhibition “Pink Dialogues” opened in London 2008, which also set the core of this exhibition. For Nurdan Iskender, drawing is “(if it is) to show the right path to the talent and passion, then it is possible both to go out of the line and get lost in it… “

The artist kind of draws a pictorial analysis of the persons and incidents in her life. In her works each item has a different story and hosts faces either laughing with a childishly ironical smile or crying and bears hidden stories at a lower pitch.

In frames reflecting her constantly mobile life, it is possible to see not only the intercity-international travels but also her inner journeys and ups and downs. For Iskender, these ups and downs “are of an eternal existence that transcends what is symbolic like a different kind of perception, a moment of meditational high or a lover’s.” The artist states that she aims to establish a link between the visual and spiritual worlds by making use of the plastic language of the words and colors.

Nurdan Iskender’s drawings since 2008 and recent works will start to be exhibited on October 15th, 2012, at 18:00 pm.

Travels from Outside Of the Line to The Inside exhibition can be seen at Teşvikiye Galeri/Miz until November 5th, 2012.

PERCEPTION GATES is at The Marmara Pera between 13 September and 13 October

Cep Art Gallery, brings together the Works of the independent artists of the contemporary art; Ahmet SARI, Barış CİHANOĞLU, Cemal Gürsel SOYEL, Erdinç BABAT, Gürbüz Doğan EKŞİOĞLU, Nadide ACAR KARACA, Nurdan İSKENDER, Seyit Mehmet BUÇUKOĞLU, Semih ZEKİ and Takayoshi SAKABE at The Marmara Pera with the exhibition so called “ Perception Gates” between 13 September and 13 October.

“PERCEPTION GATES”

In an atmosphere where the contents of some illusions and concepts are swallowed, visuality is absolutely a hollow concept. We can see some of the things while our eyes open, but what about when they are closed? The difference between the chair that Van Gogh sees and the chair we see; is this phenomenal and real  of the perception? On the other hand the exact thing that Cezanne was searching while he was telling his women models to resemble an apple was not so different from Plato’s ideas!

Aldous Huxley who says that emotions, sensations, insights and dreams are special and tells us without the mediation of any symbols and second hands these things cannot be transmitted and  he mentions about the borders between what we see and what we perceive and even if the words are vocalized, defends that they don’t tell anything entirely and are mutually exclusive experience world with the dispatching things in his book “The Doors of Perception”; which is the source of inspiration of the name and reason of the manifestation of this exhibition. Accordingly, if we were not born as visual, intuitive or musical genius, it is impossible to understand completely L. Da Vinci or Beethoven.

On the other hand, if art is the mother tongue of mankind and if its mission (if there should be a mission necessarily), on the contrary of J. Baudrillard’ saying, is not “return the world back as it is given to us – as incomprehensible –”, in direct contradiction its mission is to make it extremely comprehensible.

The artists who are gathered exactly on that point of view use their individual language: this is a language which aims to be comprehensible and decipherable utterly without any need of exaggeration. Without any doubt it is not only dealed with vision; by this way it is aimed to force hearing and talking and all kind of perception …

The artists who are living their own subjective experiences in an objective actual world want to share this experience with the spectators. With the “Perception Gates”, the existence is also interrogated. And there is a question what is the rest behind again and always is: What is realty?

The Exhibition can be visited at the Marmara Pera between 13 September and 13 October.
